SUNRISE, FL -- For the second time in as many nights, the Calgary Flames fell in extra time, losing 3-2 in a shootout to the Florida Panthers on Friday.

Dmitry Kulikov and Stephen Weiss scored in the shootout while Alex Tanguay was the only Flame to beat Jose Theodore.

Flames netminder Leland Irving made his NHL debut in the loss. The rookie made several clutch saves and looked extremely poised throughout the contest.

The 23 year-old made 39 saves through 65:00 and was tested four times in the shootout.

"He played great," Lee Stempniak said afterwards. "He made some big saves. He was really confident.

"I'm really, really happy for him, the way he played tonight."

Former Panther captain Olli Jokinen rattled off two points against his old team, giving him 25 on the year.

Sean Bergenheim got the Panthers on the board early after he was able to pick up a loose puck in front of the net and slap it in. Both Irving and the defenceman were out of position on the play, giving the forward a wide open cage to dump the puck in.

Jokinen came back with a goal of his own just over three minutes later.

Curtis Glencross took a shot from the side of the net and Jokinen was there to bat away at the rebound until it slipped past Theodore.

Jarome Iginla also assisted on the Jokinen tally, giving him five points of the last five games.

The second period was a scoreless affair despite both teams getting a two-man advantage.

The Flames surged ahead in the final frame when Rene Bourque potted a power play marker at 3:55. Taking a pass from Jokinen, the winger shuttled the puck through Theodore. Tanguay had the second assist on the go-ahead goal.

Bergenheim added his second of the night with just 4:35 remaining in regulation and sent the game into extra time.
