CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames put 39 shots on Craig Anderson but a two-goal outing from Bobby Butler gave the Ottawa Senators a 3-1 win on Tuesday.

While neither team could find the back of the net in the first period, the Flames had several excellent scoring opportunities thanks to the likes of Lee Stempniak, Roman Horak and Paul Byron.

The line came out firing on all cylinders, nearly beating Anderson during their first shift. Byron whipped a backhand pass to the front of the net where Stempniak was perched. A quick pad save kept the game scoreless but didn't dampen the trio's spirit as they continued to pressure the Sens.

Ottawa ran into penalty trouble early in the second stanza when Jesse Winchester and Erik Condra took minors within 56 seconds of each other. However, they escaped both infractions unscathed as the Flames power play could not convert.

Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson finally broke the deadlock at 18:44 when he slipped through the defence and knocked it over Miikka Kiprusoff's glove to score his fifth of the year.

The Flames answered right back, scoring at just over a minute later thanks to a heads up play by Matt Stajan. Anderson went behind his net to sweep the puck to his defender but the pivot knew he had a step on any Senator nearby and chased after the errant pass. He grabbed it in the corner, backhanded it into the slot and the puck bounced off Tom Kostopoulos and into the net.

Right winger Bobby Butler gave the visitors a lead at 9:50 when he slipped past an attempted check by Jay Bouwmeester in the neutral zone, carried on through the Flames zone and used Mark Giordano as a screen.

The forward scored once again just over six minutes later, sending a rocket from just outside the faceoff circle. Overall, Butler snapped four shots on net in his 8:19 of ice time.
