EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - After a frustrating night in Philadelphia, the power-play goals flowed for the Calgary Flames in New Jersey.
Jarome Iginla scored two goals and had an assist Wednesday night to lead Flames to a 4-1 victory over the Devils one night after a 1-0 shootout loss to the Flyers.
``It was a good feeling,'' Iginla said. ``It was nice to get a few power-play goals in the second period. In the 1-0 game, you think about every chance on the power play and how that could have made a difference. It was nice to get that momentum going with the power play.''
Iginla had gone nine games without a goal.
``I had been thinking about it,'' he said. ``I love to score goals. You think about our last game, a 1-0 loss. When you win, you shrug it off. It's in the close losses that you really feel it.''
``I give credit to the defensemen who played solid in front of me,'' Sauve said. ``They let me see every shot out there.''
Calgary took over first place in the Northwest Division. The Flames have 38 points, two more than the idle Vancouver Canucks.
Alexander Mogilny scored for the Devils, who dropped their second straight game.
Calgary took charge with three unanswered goals in the second period.
The Devils picked up two penalties in the first 30 seconds, and the Flames cashed in both power plays to break a 1-1 deadlock.
Phaneuf took a cross-ice pass from Andrew Ference and whipped a shot from the right point past Martin Brodeur 48 seconds into the period.
Langkow, on a pass from Iginla, beat Brodeur from the left circle 38 seconds later for a 3-1 lead.
Iginla scored his second goal at 12:51 on a soft shot that glanced off Brodeur's skate.
The Devils could not dent Sauve even with four power plays in the third period. New Jersey went 1-for-10 with a man advantage and outshot Calgary 32-15.
The teams exchanged power-play goals in the opening period with Mogilny and Iginla connecting.
Mogilny opened the scoring at 12:50 on a shot from the left circle over Sauve's left shoulder. The goalie had a busy period as the Devils, aided by four power plays, outshot the Flames 13-2.
Calgary made one of those chances count with 1:18 remaining. Langkow fed a pass to Iginla positioned behind the goal line. The Flames captain skated into the slot and put a shot between Brodeur's pads.
The power play has become an issue for the Devils as they are only 1-for-33 over the last five games.
``We've had our chances,'' forward Scott Gomez said. ``When the power play is going good, they bounce in off three or four guys. Now, sometimes, it looks like we just learned how to skate.''
Devils coach Larry Robinson, back behind the bench after missing two games with a virus, remains puzzled by his team that has been mired around .500 most of the season.
``It's the strangest team I've ever been around,'' Robinson said. ``They're a different group. A leader would probably help. Most great teams have somebody that will step forward. We have a bunch of guys and not one particular guy to come forward and step in front if things get out of hand.''
Notes: Both teams lost the night before and switched goalies. Calgary's Miikka Kiprusoff lost in Philadelphia. Scott Clemmensen was in goal for the Devils in their 5-2 loss at Detroit. ... Calgary D Roman Hamrlik sustained a knee injury in the first period and didn't return. ... Calgary is 6-5 in its last 11 visits to New Jersey.
