CALGARY, Alberta, (AP) _ Marty Turco and the Dallas Stars have been unbeatable at home, and on Monday night appeared just as dangerous on the road.
Turco stopped 29 shots for his 21st career shutout, and Shayne Corson scored twice as Dallas opened a four-game road trip with a 4-0 victory over the Calgary Flames. The Stars are unbeaten in (13-0-4) in their last 17 home games.
Corson, Brendan Morrow, and Jason Arnott scored to stake Dallas to a 3-0 first-period lead with the Stars outshooting the Flames 15-4.
``That first period is one of the best periods we've had on the road,'' said Corson, who has three goals in 11 games since signing with Dallas as a free agent.
Calgary was much better in the second and third periods, outshooting Dallas 25-9 over that span. But the Flames couldn't beat Turco, who appeared in his league-high 71st game and improved to 35-21-13.
``This is the best I've felt all year,'' Turco said. ``There have been some ailments that have dissipated.''
After enduring a tough start to the season, Turco has nine shutouts, just one behind league leader Martin Brodeur of New Jersey. Turco has earned three of those shutouts in his last eight starts.
``It was hard for Marty to come in and do the exact same thing he did last year because of the pressure,'' said Stars defenseman Richard Matvichuk. ``Last year, he was a rookie goalie, he came into buildings, stole hockey games and then we went on our way.
``Now, everybody knows who Marty Turco is.''
Dallas (39-24-13-0) moved into fourth place in the Western Conference standings, two points ahead of Vancouver. The Stars also moved within a point of Pacific Division-leading San Jose. Dallas will conclude its road trip in San Jose on Sunday.
After a seven-game unbeaten streak, Calgary (38-28-7-3) has lost two straight. The Flames are sixth in the Western Conference with six games remaining. They are three points behind Vancouver and four ahead of Nashville.
``Unlike our teams in the past where we've lost four or five games in a row, we've been able to stop any losing streak really quick so that's what we're going to try and do with this one so we can head into the playoffs on a role,'' forward Chris Clark said.
Calgary was without head coach and general manager Darryl Sutter and left-winger Krzysztof Oliwa, suspended two and three games, respectively, for their roles in a brawl against Nashville on Saturday night.
Arnott's goal with one minute remaining in the first period was the back-breaker for Calgary, putting the Stars ahead 3-0.
``Especially the timing of that goal with a minute left,'' Clark said. ``It's really deflating when you give up a goal against like that.''
Corson rounded out the scoring with a short-handed goal with 1:21 remaining. Corson was credited with the goal after Clark's pass back to the blue-line slid all the way into the Flames' end and into the empty goal. Calgary had pulled goalie Miikka Kiprusoff for an extra skater.
Dallas opened the scoring on goals 36 seconds apart by Corson and Morrow in the first.
Dallas defenseman Sergei Zubov sustained what a club official said was a charley horse and is questionable for the Stars' game Wednesday night in Edmonton.
