Avalanche look to bounce back vs. Flames
Colorado Avalanche vs. Calgary Flames

AVALANCHE (19-7-0) at FLAMES (10-13-4)

TV: ALT, SNET-W

Last 10: Colorado 5-5-0; Calgary 4-4-2

Season series: This is the second of three games between the Colorado Avalanche and Calgary Flames, and the only one at Scotiabank Saddledome. Colorado beat Calgary 4-2 in Denver on Nov. 8.

Big story: The Avalanche won 19 of their first 25 games, but they had a nightmarish night at Rexall Place on Thursday, when they were routed 8-2 by the Edmonton Oilers. The Flames are looking for their third consecutive win.

Team Scope:

Avalanche: His team surrendered eight goals to one of the NHL's weakest teams, but Avalanche coach Patrick Roy looked at the loss to the Oilers as a learning experience.

"We just played into their game," Roy said. "We have to learn from that."

He also felt the score didn't reflect the way the game was played. Colorado trailed 3-0, got within 3-2, had chances after the Oilers scored their fourth goal, and surrendered three late goals in the third period.

"In the third period, we had some chances at the start of the period, but we couldn't find the back of the net," he said. "It was closer than the score."

Flames: Coach Bob Hartley rode Swiss rookie Reto Berra in November, starting him in 11 of 12 games in one stretch. Now it's Karri Ramo's turn. After allowing one goal each in consecutive victories against the Los Angeles Kings and Phoenix Coyotes, Ramo will play again Friday.

"Karri's very focused," Hartley said Thursday. "Here's a team that puts lots of good pucks to the net with intentions of getting tip or screen shots. They're doing a very good job at it, and I felt that throughout the game [Wednesday], Karri had about four, five tips that were very dangerous chances. I felt that his tracking was unbelievable. It looked like routine saves, and they were not. I feel that right now, the game is easy for him. He makes saves look easy, and that's a quality of a good goalie. He's playing very well."

Who's hot: Colorado captain Gabriel Landeskog has five points in his past three games. … Ramo has stopped 50 of 52 shots in his back-to-back wins.

Injury report: Colorado defenceman Jan Hejda (knee) left the game in Edmonton in the first period. Roy said Hejda would return to Denver on Friday for further evaluation. Defenceman Ryan Wilson (back) and forward Alex Tanguay (knee) are out. … The Flames are missing forwards Curtis Glencross (knee) and TJ Galiardi (back spasms), center Sean Monahan (fractured foot) and defenceman Dennis Wideman (fractured hand).
