FLAMES (8-12-4) at DUCKS (17-7-3)
TV: SNET-W, PRIME
Last 10: Calgary 2-6-2; Anaheim 4-4-2
Season series: The Anaheim Ducks won the first meeting of the season 3-2 and Teemu Selanne was credited with the game-winning goal. Anaheim has won nine of 12 against the Calgary Flames since the start of the 2010-11 season.
Big story: Anaheim will try to keep pace with the San Jose Sharks at the top of the Pacific Division, while Calgary plays for the first time since finding out two key players are out for weeks because of injuries.
Flames: Calgary lost two more key players to injury after a loss to the Chicago Blackhawks. Defenceman Dennis Wideman is out 6-to-8 weeks with a broken hand after blocking a shot against Chicago, and rookie forward Sean Monahan is week-to-week after a hairline fracture was discovered in his foot.
Paul Byron and Max Reinhart have been recalled on consecutive days from the American Hockey League and could be in the mix at forward.
"It is certainly not good news when these things happen," general manager Jay Feaster told reporters. "To lose a guy like Dennis Wideman, that's a tough blow for the team. Obviously with the way [Monahan] was playing, he's a tough guy to take out of your lineup. But it creates opportunities for other guys. … We can't worry about the guys who aren't in the lineup. We have to win some games with the guys who are."
Ducks: Anaheim has wobbled a bit since reaching the top of the NHL standings earlier this month. The Ducks have lost four of six games and needed some late overtime heroics from captain Ryan Getzlaf to be the Steven Stamkos-less Tampa Bay Lightning 1-0. The most recent setback was a 6-3 defeat against the Dallas Stars. Dallas scored three times in 53 seconds and five times in the third period to claim the victory.
Anaheim announced a three-year contract extension Thursday for center Nick Bonino. He has a career-high seven goals and is two shy of his career-best point total (18) already this season.
"This year is a big year for me. And so far, I've felt good," Bonino said. "I'm doing what I can in the [defensive] zone, the [offensive] zone, special teams and in faceoffs. It's stuff like that you know you want to be on and contributing everywhere. That's been a good start."
Who's hot: Joe Colborne has three points in his past three games for the Flames. Monahan had two goals and two shootout-winning tallies in the past five games … Getzlaf has a point in eight straight games and 15 in 10 November contests.
Injury report: The Flames were already dealing with a couple of key injuries before Wideman and Monahan. Captain Mark Giordano (ankle), forward Curtis Glencross (knee) and forward TJ Galiardi are already on injured reserve … The Ducks will not be feeling sorry for the Flames on Friday. Anaheim is likely to be without five regulars and half of the team's goaltending duo against Calgary. Defencemen Sheldon Souray (wrist) and Luca Sbisa (wrist), forwards Jakob Silfverberg (hand) and Saku Koivu (concussion), and goaltender Viktor Fasth (lower body) are all on injured reserve, though Koivu could play for the first time in a month Friday. Bryan Allen (lower body) and Francois Beauchemin (upper body) are both likely to be out as well, leaving the Ducks short four top-six defencemen.
