OTTAWA, ON -- The Ottawa Senators overcame a three-goal deficit to defeat the Calgary Flames 4-3 in overtime.

Daniel Alfredsson scored his 400th career goal in dramatic fashion, blasting a shot past Leland Irving at 3:31 of extra time.

Erik Karlsson assisted on the power play goal. The defenceman was key in victory, scoring the tying marker in the third period.

Irving made 46 saves in his third NHL start.

Alex Auld let in a shaky goal just 23 seconds into regulation when Rene Bourque spun around and sent a soft shot towards the net. It slipped past the netminder slowly and ended up in the back of the net.

Curtis Glencross made it a 2-0 game at 6:25 of the first period with a power play marker. Jay Bouwmeester dished him the puck from behind the goal line and the winger sent his one-timer top shelf.

Jarome Iginla earned the secondary assist on the tally.

By the end of the frame, the visitors were ahead by three goals thanks to a Chris Butler's first of the season.

Auld didn't appear to be ready at all for the blueliner's shot and it whizzed past him at 18:49. Anton Babchuk and Mikael Backlund were credited with the helpers.

The Senators made a goaltending change in the middle frame, replacing Auld with Craig Anderson.

Ottawa came out hard in the second period, scoring twice and dictating the play. Nick Foligno and Zack Smith beat Irving and the Senators put 14 pucks on the rookie.

Karlsson scored the equalizer at 4:28 of the third period. He was able to collect his own rebound at the side of the net, swooped behind the net and sent a shot over top of a sprawling Irving.
