ST. LOUIS, MO -- The Calgary Flames inability to generate offence handed the club their third straight loss as the St. Louis Blues defeated them by a score of 2-0.

Brian Elliott made 24 saves to earn his third shutout of the season.

The game featured the debut of forward Blake Comeau. The winger was claimed off of waivers on Friday morning and made to St. Louis in time to play.

The 25 year-old had three shots and three hits in 15:08 of ice time.

The Blues opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal at 10:39. David Backes was able to get behind TJ Brodie and notched his eighth of the season.

The goal came right after Lee Stempniak rang a shot off the post.

The Flames weren't able to gain any momentum in the second period despite drawing two penalties.

St. Louis outshot their visitors by a 13-4 margin and were able to hem the Flames in their own end for the majority of the period.

The Flames picked up the pace in the third period but Elliott denied them on all 11 shots they rifled at him.

Defenceman Mark Giordano nearly potted equalizer after T.J. Oshie was handed an interference penalty at 7:17 of the third period.

He took a hard shot from the side of the net and whacked away at the rebound. The puck landed underneath Elliott and nearly trickled over the line but the netminder threw himself to the ice to cover it up.

Alex Pietrangelo made it a 2-0 affair at 13:77. Alexander Steen sent the defenceman a pass from behind the net and Pietrangelo wired a shot past Kiprusoff in the slot.
