THE TURNING POINT

The Flames are on a power play late in the third when Jarome Iginla makes a great move off the boards to get the puck to the middle. It bounces around in a mass of legs in front of the Kings net before Daymond Langkow puts it into the net to put the Flames up 5-4 to settle things in a wild third period.

THE BIG SAVE

After the Flames took a 2-0 lead the Kings settled down and took a time out. Shortly after, Brian Willsie broke to the net for tip and Miikka Kiprusoff stuck out his toe to make a huge save and keep the Flames ahead by two.

WORTH NOTING

Rhett Warrener drew back into the line-up for the first time in more than a month after recovering from a high ankle sprain, slightly ahead of schedule. "The trainers did a great job of gettingme back," said Warrener. "You have to err on the side of caution because if you hurt it again it could mean being out for the season. But, with the team winning, that was easier to do."

LOS ANGELES (AP) -Calgary coach Mike Keenan hardly changed expression from the time goalie Miikka Kiprusoff blew a two-goal lead in the third period until the final horn when the Flames escaped with their fifth straight victory.

His insides told a different story.

Kristian Huselius and Daymond Langkow scored the tying and go-ahead goals on power plays less than two minutes apart in the third, Jarome Iginla had a goal and two assists, and the Flames beat the Los Angeles Kings 6-4 Saturday night to overtake Vancouver for the Northwest Division lead.

"It was an emotional roller coaster for our team trying to come back, but they showed a lot of determination and were able to succeed in the end," Keenan said.

Robyn Regehr and Langkow scored 62 seconds apart early in the first period, helping the Flames beat Los Angeles for the fifth straight time. Calgary has won 11 of 14 overall and eight of nine on the road.

"It's pretty big," Iginla said. "I mean, we were quite a ways out at the beginning of December, and at that point we were just trying to crawl back into the hunt and into a playoff spot. Kipper's been playing great and we've been riding it and really enjoying this winning streak."

Brad Stuart, Ladislav Nagy and Anze Kopitar scored third-period goals, and Alexander Frolov also found the net for Los Angeles, which has lost 10 of 13. The Kings' 15 wins are their fewest after 43 games since they had 13 during the lockout-shortened 1994-95 campaign and finished 16-23-9.

"I don't think we're playing like we want to win right now," captain Rob Blake said after the Kings slipped to an NHL-worst 15-26-2. "We're at the bottom of the league for a reason."

Trailing 3-1 after two periods, Los Angeles grabbed a 4-3 lead on Kopitar's 17th goal during a 5-on-3 power play. Cory Sarich was serving a four-minute penalty for high-sticking Kyle Calder, and Matthew Lombardi was in the box for slashing.

Huselius tied it 4-all, converting Iginla's cross-ice pass with 6:55 to play and Frolov serving a tripping penalty. Langkow put the Flames ahead to stay with 5:05 left during a goal mouth scramble while Kings forward Brian Willsie was off for holding. Huselius scored again into an empty net with 16.1 seconds remaining for his 20th goal.

"We were just sloppy. We were sloppy all night, like we have been all year," Blake said. "We had a lead and we gave it up. They capitalized on their power plays. The only reason we got back in that game was that 5-on-3."

Los Angeles got on the board at 6:14 of the second period with Frolov's seventh goal. Calgary stretched its lead to 3-1 seven minutes later.

Iginla beat Jason LaBarbera between the pads with a wrist shot in the slot, 28 seconds after Dustin Brown was sent off for slashing. The goal was Iginla's 32nd this season and 12th on the power play, one fewer than the Flames captain had last season.

"This is the most talented group that I've played with in Calgary, with Huselius, (Alex) Tanguay, (Craig) Conroy and Langkow," Iginla said. "We're all helping each other and feeding each other, and I've been the recipient of some pretty good passes."

The Kings pulled even at 3-all with Stuart's fourth goal and Nagy's ninth. Stuart took a wrist shot from just inside the blue line at the left point, and the puck changed direction off the stick of Calgary defenseman Dion Phaneuf with 17:52 left. Nagy banged in a loose puck with 15:12 remaining.

"They got down by two goals early, but they stuck with it. They've got a skilled young bunch and they found a way to tilt it," Iginla said. "Going up 3-1, that was a pretty big lead at that point, but they poured it on again."

Regehr opened the scoring at 2:37 of the first period with his first goal in 26 career games against the Kings.

Langkow, who had a pair of goals against Los Angeles in the Flames' 4-3 loss on Oct. 18 at Calgary, made it 2-0 with his 15th of the season.

Langkow also prevented a goal in the opening minute. He slid to the right of the crease with Kiprusoff out of position and blocked a backhander by Lubomir Visnovsky.

Notes: The victory was Keenan's 606th, the most among active coaches and seven behind current Ottawa general manager Bryan Murray for fifth place on the NHL career list. ... Iginla has scored 356 goals with Calgary, eight shy of Theo Fleury's franchise record. The Flames are 16-4-3 this season when Iginla scores. ...
