CALGARY, AB -- Adam Ollas Mattsson may not be able to participate in the on-ice sessions at the Flames development camp but the defenceman is soaking up the experience.

"Of course I want to be on the ice but I'm making the best of the situation," he told CalgaryFlames.com. "I'm working out, meeting the guys. It's been a great experience. I'm learning a lot from being here."

Ollas Mattsson is stuck in a walking boot for the duration of camp thanks to a biking injury that happened a couple of weeks ago in Stockholm.

"I was riding my bike and there was rocks on the road," he said with a shake of his head. "I fell with the bike and twisted my foot. I wish I could be out on the ice right now."

The rearguard, who was selected in the sixth round of the 2014 NHL Draft, opted to remain in Stockholm rather than make lengthy flight across the Atlantic for the draft.

He kept close tabs on the entire affair and was thrilled to see his name pop up next the Flames logo.

"I was at a friend's house actually. We watched the whole draft. We had a little party at his house so I found while just having fun with my friends.

"I'm so happy to be a part of the Flames. It's a dream come true."

After a quick trip to Philadelphia to visit some friends, Ollas Mattsson will head back to Sweden to continue preparing for the 2014-15 campaign.

He has signed a contract with Djurgården, allowing him to play against the top players in the Swedish Hockey League. While already physically ready to play against men, standing 6-foot-4 and weighing in at 214-pounds, Ollas Mattsson is looking to work on his skating skills next season.

"I definitely am focused on my speed," he said. "I'm a bigger guy so I'm working on my foot speed. That is my priority for sure."

Ollas Mattsson believes his tough, physical presence is one of his greatest attributes and that, coupled with his defensive awareness, led to quite the 2013-14 season.

At just 17 years of age, he earned the opportunity to play in six games in Allsvenskan, Sweden's second highest tier of hockey. He picked up two assists during his cup of coffee with Djurgården.

He also played in 33 games with Djurgården J20 in 2013-14, picking up nine points and 42 penalty minutes.

In addition to all of that, the 17-year-old played four games for Sweden 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.

"I'm a big, physical defenceman who plays a tough game," he explained. "I'm good in the defensive zone. I'm still working on the offence.

"I'm really excited to keep working on my game this year, keep getting better and better."
