PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Calgary Flames announced today that with the fourth overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, they have selected forward Sam Bennett from the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League.

Bennett, in his second season with the Frontenacs, was ninth in the OHL with 91 points in 57 games. He led his team in points, goals (36), assists (55), plus/minus rating (plus-34) and power play goals (10). He had a league-best 25-game scoring streak in which he scored 17 goals and 46 points. In seven OHL playoff games, Bennett had five goals and four assists and was plus-2 with 18 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot, 178-pound forward finished No. 1 on NHL Central Scouting's final ranking of North American skaters for the 2014 Draft.

In 2012-13 Bennett skated in the OHL as a 16-year-old — being named to the league's all-rookie second team — and competed in the 2013 World Hockey Challenge and U18 World Junior Championship tournaments. He scored 18 goals with 22 assists in 60 regular season games for Kingston and was minus-two with 87 penalty minutes. In four OHL playoff games, Bennett had three assists and was minus-nine with two penalty minutes. In five games for Ontario at the U17 WHC, he scored three goals with three assists and had 10 penalty minutes.

Bennett was an assistant captain for the gold medal Canada U18 team at the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Tournament. In five games he scored three goals with one assist and was plus-three with six penalty minutes.
