Mason McDonald and Brent Moran are among five draft-eligible goaltenders to attend Hockey Canada\'s Program of Excellence goaltending camp

CALGARY, AB -- Mason McDonald and Brent Moran, ranked second and third among North American goaltenders by Central Scouting heading into the 2014 NHL Draft, are among the 34 netminders invited to participate in Hockey Canada’s ninth annual Program of Excellence goaltending camp.

Ten goaltenders in the under-20 age category (candidates for Canada’s National Junior Team), eight in the under-18 category (candidates for Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team) and 16 under-17 goaltenders (candidates for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge) will get the opportunity to work with a number of instructors during the four-day camp.

The camp will run from June 11-14 and will be led by former NHL goaltenders Fred Brathwaite and Sean Burke.

In 13 games with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, McDonald went 3-7-1 with a 3.57 goals against average and .887 save percentage. After a trade to the Charlottetown Islanders, the 18-year-old went 5-8-2 with a 3.35 goals against average and .907 save percentage.

He also helped Canada to a bronze at the 2014 IIHF World Under-18 Championship, recording a 1.94 goals against average and .930 save percentage in six games. He was named the tournament’s top goaltender and one of Canada’s top-three players as selected by the team’s coaching staff.

In 40 games with the Niagara IceDogs, Moran went 14-19-4 with a 3.85 goals against average and .891 save percentage. Moran also represented Canada at the Under-18’s but did not play.

Also invited to Canada’s goaltending camp is Alec Dillon of the Victoria Grizzlies (13th, BCHL), Ty Edmonds of the Prince George Cougars (18th, WHL) and Julio Billia of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens (21st, QMJHL).
