CALGARY, AB -- It was Denmark’s day to play spoiler at the 2014 IIHF World Championship.

After the United States fell to Latvia on Thursday and France toppled Canada in a shootout in both teams’ openers eight days ago, Denmark topped Jiri Hudler and the Czech Republic 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday.

Hudler was held pointless in 14:51 of ice time and was unsuccessful in converting his shootout attempt in the loss.

Canada and Sean Monahan, the United States and Johnny Gaudreau and Sweden and Mikael Backlund were all idle Saturday.

Gaudreau leads all Flames players in the tournament with five assists and six points through the opening five games. Backlund sits second with four goals and an assist while Hudler has four points through five games. Monahan has one assist.
