World Championship Update: 14.05.14
Jiri Hudler\'s assist helped pace the Czech Republic to their first regulation win at the Worlds on Wednesday

CALGARY, AB -- It took four games, but Jiri Hudler’s Czech Republic club earned its first regulation win at the 2014 IIHF World Championship on Wednesday.

Hudler assisted on Jiri Sekac’s game-winning goal early in the second period while Jaromir Jagr added an insurance marker to pace the Czechs to a 2-0 win over Italy. Alexander Salak earned the shutout after making 11 saves.

Hudler's assist, his third, pushes his tournament totals to four points -- just one shy of Ondrej Nemec’s team-lead of five.

Sean Monahan of Canada, Johnny Gaudreau of the United States and Mikael Backlund of Sweden were all inactive Wednesday.

Through three games, Monahan has one assist, a plus-2 rating and is averaging 8:10 of ice time per game. Gaudreau has recorded a goal and two assists and is averaging 16:09 per ice time through his first three games. Backlund, averaging 16:42 of ice, is sixth in tournament scoring with three goals and four points in three games.
