World Championship Update: 12.05.14
CALGARY, AB -- For the second straight day, Jiri Hudler fell to a Calgary Flames teammate.
Sean Monahan assisted on Joel Ward’s first goal at 9:56 of the first period as Canada upended the Czech Republic 4-3 at the 2014 IIHF World Championship on Monday. The primary assist was Monahan’s first career point at the Worlds.
The 19-year-old saw 12:11 of ice time. He played 3:01 in Canada’s tournament opening 3-2 shootout loss to France and 9:18 in a 4-1 win over Slovakia on Saturday.
Hudler, who assisted on Jiri Novotny’s third period goal against Canada, also fell 4-3 to Mikael Backlund and Sweden on Sunday. Backlund was inactive Monday.
After starting the tournament with a three-point effort, Johnny Gaudreau has been kept off the scoresheet in back-to-back games, including the United States’ 6-1 loss to Russia on Monday. Gaudreau had one shot in 14:51 of ice in the setback.
