CALGARY, AB -- Calgary Flames goaltender Karri Ramo was outstanding against his former team, the Tampa Bay Lightning, on Thursday night.

In his first game back in Tampa Bay since leaving for the KHL five years ago, Ramo turned away 31 of 32 shots, backstopping the Flames to a 4-1 victory.

“It was a normal game for me,” Ramo said. “I thought it might be a little bit different.

“It was a win, so it was a good game,”

The 27-year-old explained that heading into a game against his former team was not a big deal to him. He just wanted to treat it like every other game he has this season.

“It’s been a long time and the team has changed so much, there are not too many familiar faces there anymore,” Ramo said.

Flames coach Bob Hartley saw things a little differently than his netminder.

“It was big,” Hartley said. “Any player, but more importantly goalies; it’s easy mental preparation when you’re playing against your old team.

“As a coach, I always hate to coach against former goalies because you know that they want to beat you bad.”

Since returning for injury at the end of March, Ramo has posted a record of 4-3-0 and has given up 17 goals in those seven starts. The Asikkala, Finland-product is averaging 2.43 goals-per-game and has a save percentage of 0.923 during this stretch. With tonight’s win, Ramo now has 15 wins on the season and has won nine since the start of the New Year.

“Karri, once again; was very solid.” Hartley said.
