CALGARY, AB -- The Abbotsford Heat closed out their season series with the Utica Comets with a bang, thumping the Vancouver Canucks AHL affiliate 7-2 on Saturday evening.

Ben Street led the way for the Heat, scoring one goal and three points in the victory. The Coquitlam, BC product leads the team in scoring this season with 53 points in 51 games.

The Heat opened the scoring at the 14:38 mark, with Jordan Kremyr’s first career AHL goal, assisted by Tim Miller and Kane Lafranchise. Abbotsford outshot their hosts 14-11 in the opening stanza.

Utica evened up the score 30 seconds into the second period, with a goal from Jeremy Welsh, but the Heat cranked up the pressure after that.

Zach Davies scored the Heat's second goal of game, assisted by Max Reinhart and Street, just over three minutes after Utica got on the board. Then, just over a minute later, Brett Olson tipped in a power play goal to make it 3-1.

Olson scored his second goal of the period, which came shorthanded at the 8:07 mark to make it 4-1. Then, Josh Jooris and Reinhart set up Street to give Abbotsford a four-goal cushion.

At 12:36, Jooris was awarded a penalty shot, and he made no mistake scoring his 11th goal of the season, which gave the Heat a 6-1 lead after 40:00.

The third period saw Shane O'Brien pot Abbotsford's seventh goal of the evening, with the helpers going to Sven Baertschi and Lafranchise. Baertschi now has 10 points in his last nine games.

Alex Biega scored shorthanded to give the Comets their second goal of the evening but that was all they could muster.

Joni Ortio earned second star honours, stopping 32 of the 34 shots he faced. He now holds a 22-7-0 record this season with a 2.20 GAA and a .928 save percentage.

The Heat close out their road trip on Sunday when they face off against the Toronto Marlies. The game will be broadcast on Sportsnet 360 at 2:00 PM MST.
