Kanzig and Royal sweep Chiefs in WHL playoffs
Keegan Kanzig and the Victoria Royals are off to the semi-finals
CALGARY, AB -- Calgary Flames prospect Keegan Kanzig and the Victoria Royals are off to the WHL Western Conference semi-finals after sweeping the Spokane Chiefs in the opening round.
The Royals will face either Seattle or Everett in the next round. Seattle currently has a 3-0 lead over Everett in their quarter-final match-up.
Kanzig, who was the Flames third round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, played in all four games against Spokane, amassing one assist. The rearguard picked up one minor penalty and a plus-four rating in the series.
The Athabasca, AB native set new career-highs in goals and assists in the 2013-14 campaign, scoring three goals and eight points in 63 regular season games. He was plus-18 on the year, good for second amongst Victoria defencemen.
The Flames signed Kanzig to a three-year entry-level deal on Dec. 19, 2013.
