Gillies named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB -- Calgary Flames prospect Jon Gillies has been named Hockey East's Defensive Player of the Week.

The Providence College sophomore went 2-0-0 in a pair of games against Maine this past weekend, compiling a 2.00 GAA and a .940 save percentage by stopping 63 of the 67 shots he faced.

This is third Defensive Player of the Week nod this season. The 20-year-old was also named Hockey East's Goaltender of the Month in October and November.

The Flames 2012 third round pick is 16-7-5 this season with a 2.22 GAA and a .927 save percentage. He is a candidate for the inaugural Mike Ritcher Award, which will be given to the NCAA's top goaltender, and is amongst the first batch of players selected for the Hobey Baker Award fan ballot.
