Flames honour Olympians on Thursday
CALGARY, AB -- The “C of Red” will become the “C of Red and White” tomorrow evening as the Calgary Flames will honour over 50 Olympians who competed at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
A proud group of Canadian athletes returned home donning 25 medals including 10 gold. Canada’s medal count placed 4th among all countries for podium appearances. To recognize this amazing accomplishment, the Flames will host members of Team Canada on Thursday, February 27th as they return to action versus the Los Angeles Kings.
An on-ice pre-game ceremony will reintroduce you to our champions and provide Flames fans with an opportunity to demonstrate their patriotism as Canadians. Additionally, the ceremony will recognize the achievements of Olympians from the Flames and the Kings. The Flames were represented in Sochi by Ladislav Smid (Czech Republic), Reto Berra (Switzerland) and Brian Burke (USA) as well as two members of Canada’s men’s hockey team training staff, Kent Kobelka and Dr. Jim Thorne.
A video tribute on the Energy Board will recollect Canada’s success and our athlete’s Olympic journey. The video will be followed by a ceremonial puck drop by two of Canada’s Olympians and the introduction of all of Team Canada in attendance prior to the singing of the Canadian anthem.
Fans are asked to be in their seats early as the ceremony and video will begin prior to the opening face-off. Game time is 7:30 P.M.
