CALGARY, AB -- Reto Berra made 30 saves for his country but Switzerland was unable to generate any offence, falling to Sweden 1-0 on Friday morning.

The game's lone goal came off Detroit Red Wings forward Daniel Alfredsson's stick with 7:21 remaining in regulation.Ottawa Senators rearguard Erik Karlsson sent a long shot to the right of the net, which Berra couldn't corral, and Alfredsson was there to collect the rebound.

"Give credit to the Swiss guys," Niklas Kronwall told the IIHF. "They played a really good game and kept us on the outside for a lot of time tonight.

"We were fortunate at the beginning that Hank [Lundqvist] kept us in the game. From the 10-minute mark of the first period onward, I thought we did some good things. I still think we can do better offensively."

New York Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist made 26 saves for the Swedes, who will earn the top spot in the group and a bye to the quarterfinals by not losing in regulation Sunday to winless Latvia.

Switzerland will face Ladislav Smid and the Czech Republic on Saturday.
