Heat downed in overtime by Comets
CALGARY, AB -- For a second straight night, Benn Ferriero scored the overtime winner against the Abbotsford Heat and the Utica Comets skated away with a 4-3 victory on Saturday.
The Comets opened the scoring at 2:05 of the opening frame with Brandon DeFazio slipping a shot past Joey MacDonald. However, the Heat were able to answer back before the period came to a close. Markus Granlund potted the equalizer at 7:42, a power play marker assisted on by Max Reinhart and Evan Trupp.
Alexandre Grenier gave the Comets the lead in the second frame but once again, the Reinhart-Granlund-Trupp line responded. Reinhart potted a short-handed goal, assisted on by Granlund, to tie the game at 2-2 after 40:00.
Heat forward broke out of a scoring slump in the third period, giving the Heat a 3-2 lead at 7:18, but Grenier came back with the Comets third goal of the night at 11:13.
Ferriero scored the game-winner in overtime when he was able to break into the Abbotsford zone after Chris Breen's stick, snapping a shot past MacDonald.
MacDonald made 35 saves on 39 shots, while Joacim Eriksson stopped 23 of the 26 shots he faced.
The Heat are now 26-15-2-1 on the season and currently sit second in the West Division.
