Heat Three Stars Of The Week: 30.12.13
Corban Knight, Joni Ortio, and Ben Street were tremendous last week
CALGARY, AB -- The Abbotsford Heat were able to close out 2013 on a very strong note as they swept the Oklahoma City Barons in a two-game set this past weekend.
On Friday, Abbotsford thumped Oklahoma City by a score of 5-1. They received goals from Corban Knight, Josh Jooris, Max Reinhart (2) and Ben Hanowksi and chased veteran goalie Richard Bachman in the second period.
On Saturday, the Heat fell behind early in the first period as Curtis Hamilton was able to open the scoring at 4:04 of the first but they came storming back. Markus Granlund scored a highlight-reel tally late in the opening period, Corban Knight found the back of the net in the second frame and Lane MacDermid and Sven Baertschi scored in the third stanza.
The pair of wins pushed the Heat back into the top spot in the Western Conference with a 23-9-2 record on the year.

FIRST STAR - CORBAN KNIGHT
QUICK NUMBERS: 2 games, 2 goals, 2 assists, 7 shots on net
The 23-year-old Heat rookie struggled to produce offensively during parts of December but appears to be back in his groove as the month comes to a close. He scored a goal and an assist in each victory over the Barons this weekend and named the first star of Saturday's 4-2 victory over Oklahoma City.
SECOND STAR - JONI ORTIO
QUICK NUMBERS: 64 saves, 3 goals allowed
Head coach Troy G. Ward gave Ortio the start in both games against the Barons and he didn't disappoint. On Friday, he was named the game's second star after making 32 saves on 33 shots. On Saturday, he had a bit of a slow start but really came on in the back half of the game and boosted his club's confidence. He ended up making 32 saves on 34 shots in the 4-2 victory.
THIRD STAR - BEN STREET
QUICK NUMBERS: 2 games, 6 assists, 1 shot on net
Street's creativity and playmaking skills were on display this weekend as he rattled off six assists in the two-game set. On Friday, he was the game's third star thanks to his four-assist performance and on Saturday, he registered a pair of helpers. Street leads the Heat in scoring with 16 goals and 32 points in 26 games.
