CALGARY, AB -- Jon Gillies and the USA picked up their second victory at the 2014 World Junior Championship on Saturday, downing Slovakia 6-3.

Gillies, who made 23 saves in Thursday's 5-1 win over the Czech Republic, stopped 27 shots on Saturday morning.

The USA scored twice in the opening frame; 2015 draft-eligible forward Jack Eichel got his country on the board with a power play marker at 16:53 and Dan O’Regan scored another goal with man advantage at 19:59.

The Americans pushed their lead to 3-0 at 4:22 of the second period when Ryan Hartman scored another power play goal but the Slovaks responded with two power play tallies of their own. Slovak captain Milan Kolena was the first to beat Gillies at 11:04, with Ian McCoshen in the box for tripping. Then, at the 12:57 mark, Martin Reway scored the Slovaks second goal with Hartman in the sin bin for high-sticking.

Matt Grzelcyk gave the Americans a two-goal cushion early in the third period and shortly after, Stefan Matteau and Riley Barber gave their club a 6-2 lead. Reway beat Gillies late in the game but that was all the Slovaks could muster.

The Americans are 2-0 in the tournament. They take on Germany tomorrow.
