Morning Skate Report: Flames vs. Sabres

On June 25, 2011, the Flames dealt Robyn Regehr, Aleš Kotalík and a draft pick to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for defenceman Chris Butler and forward Paul Byron. Butler, who has suited up for 143 games with the Flames, has returned to Buffalo since the deal but this will be Byron's first time back at the First Niagara Center.

"I'm personally really excited," Byron said after the team breakfast. "This is where I started my career, this is the team that drafted me.

"We're in similar positions [as teams] but we're just trying to get wins out there. We've got to whatever we can to get the two points today."

Byron played eight games as a Sabre, registering one goal and two points in his tenure with Buffalo.

In six games this year, Byron has three assists. He notched two helpers on Thursday in the 2-1 OT victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Forward David Jones will play in his 300th career game this afternoon. In his previous 299 games played, he has netted 76 goals, 61 assists and 137 points along with 94 penalty minutes. In 27 games with the Flames, Jones has potted six goals and 11 points.

The Flames acquired Jones along with Shane O'Brien from the Colorado Avalanche on June 27, 2013 in exchange for Alex Tanguay and Cory Sarich.

Calgary is tied for the league lead (with Carolina) in short-handed goals with six.

Matt Stajan and Lee Stempniak have each recorded three short-handed points this season. Stajan is tied for the league lead with two short-handed assists and Lee Stempniak is tied for the lead with two short-handed goals.
