Heat thump Wild on Wednesday night
Six players had multi-point nights in the 6-2 victory
ABBOTSFORD, BC -- The Abbotsford Heat picked up their third consecutive win on Wednesday, thumping the Iowa Wild 6-2 at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.
The Heat remain the top team in the AHL with a 20-6-2 record.
It was a fast-paced first period that saw five goals scored. The Wild struck first, courtesy of Erik Haula at 1:04, but the Heat managed to pot three goals in the opening stanza to take a 3-2 lead. Ferland, Street and Greg Nemisz all beat Iowa netminder Johan Gustafsson in the frame while Brett Bulmer was credited with the Wild's second marker.
In the second period, Granlund and Street gave the Heat a 5-2 lead. Granlund's 11th goal of the year extended his scoring streak to 10 games.
Olson scored the lone goal in the final frame.
Joni Ortio collected his league-leading 12th win of the season. He is 12-1-0 this year with a 2.26 GAA and a .923 save percentage.
