CALGARY, AB -- On Thursday morning, Calgary Flames general manager Jay Feaster gave an update on the status of Abbotsford Heat defenceman Patrick Sieloff, who is in his rookie season with the Flames AHL affiliate.

The rearguard is back in his home state of Michigan as he recovers from an infection. He is being treated at the University of Michigan and is

"He's ... continuing the antibiotic regimen out of the University of Michigan hospital," Feaster noted. "The doctors are pleased with the progress that he is making. He continues to be monitored and tested. As soon as the infection is completely knocked out, then he'll be ready to go."

According to Feaster, the tentative timeline for his return is early in 2014. This likely takes him out of contention for a roster spot on the USA World Junior Championship team. He competed for his country in last year's tournament, winning gold with his fellow Flames prospects Johnny Gaudreau and Jon Gillies.

Earlier this year, the Flames announced that if he did make the American squad, he would be released and allowed to participate in the tournament.

Sieloff has played in two games with the Abbotsford Heat this season. He was drafted in the second round of the 2012 NHL Draft, out of the U.S. National Development Program.
