Heat upend Barons for 9th consecutive win
Ben Street potted a hat trick in the 5-4 victory
CALGARY, AB -- When you're hot, you're hot.
And the Abbotsford Heat? They're scorching right now.
The Flames AHL affiliate picked up their ninth consecutive victory on Friday night, upending the Oklahoma City Barons (AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers) by a score of 5-4. The Heat are not only sitting in first place in the Western Conference; they are the best team in AHL with 27 points (13-4-1).
Ben Street, who is now averaging 1.36 points-per-game, tallied a hat trick in the victory. He has 15 points (eight goals, seven assists) in 11 games with Abbotsford this season and is riding a five-game point streak.
The Heat also received goals from Markus Granlund, who has five points in his last six games, and Ben Hanowski. Blair Jones, Chad Billins and Max Reinhart all had stellar nights, each picking up two assists in the victory.
Andrew Miller, C.J. Stretch, Denis Grebeshkov and Ryan Hamilton scored for the Barons.
Netminder Joni Ortio made 24 saves on 28 shots and is now 7-0-0 this season. Ilya Bryzgalov, who is in Oklahoma City on a conditioning stint, allowed five goals on 24 shots in his first game of the year.
The Heat will continue their seven-game road trip with another game on Saturday night against the Oklahoma City Barons. Following this seven game road trip, the Heat will return home to play the Utica Comets (AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks) on Friday, November 29th and Saturday, November 30th.
