Gaudreau named Hockey East\'s Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB -- Calgary Flames prospect Johnny Gaudreau has been tabbed as Hockey East's Player of the Week after notching seven points in two games this weekend.

On Friday night, Gaudreau helped lead Boston College to a 5-1 victory over Boston University with one goal and a pair of assists. The tally was his 13th game-winner in his collegiate career and his eighth goal of the season.

The 20-year-old also scored the game-winner in the 11-0 Boston College trouncing over Army on Sunday. He contributed four points, his single-game high this season, in the victory with a couple of goals and a pair of assists.

Through nine games this year, Gaudreau has potted nine goals and 18 points. He is averaging an NCAA-best 2.00 points-per-game and is tied for third in the nation, averaging one goal per game. The New Jersey native is also tied for second in the nation in game-winning goals with three this year.

Gaudreau was named Hockey East Player of the Week on three times last year and picked up four Rookie of the Week honors during the 2011-12 campaign. He has also been named the league’s top Player of the Month four times and was named Hockey East Player of the Year last year.

The Flames selected Gaudreau in the fourth round (104th overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft.

BOSTON COLLEGE FYI: On Sunday, Gaudreau’s younger brother, Matthew, a freshman on this year’s club, played in his first career contest against Army. Both Gaudreau brothers scored in the contest, marking the first time a brother tandem scored a goal in the same game since Jimmy Hayes (2008-11) and Kevin Hayes at UMass Lowell on Jan. 29, 2011.
