Flames Foundation kicks off 2013-14 season with donations to local charities
CALGARY, AB -- The Flames Foundation for Life is looking forward to kicking off another Calgary Flames campaign. This summer concluded with two large donations from the Flames charitable arm: a $1 million commitment to Camp Kindle through Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta and a $1 million donation to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Flood Relief in response to the Calgary flood in June 2013.
This off-ice season started with a successful Calgary Flames Celebrity Charity Golf Classic on September 10th. The annual back to business event raised over $365,000 Flames Foundation for Life recent commitments.
The charitable arm is getting things started on the right skate with four donations to local organizations in support of the Flames Foundation for Life’s original mandate, to improve the lives of Southern Albertans.
$50,000 donated to Wood’s Homes - Wood’s Homes is an organization which helps troubled children and their families located in Bowness. Wood’s Homes operate over 30 programs which impact over 20,000 children annually.
$30,000 donated to Meals on Wheels - The Flames Foundation for Life support is directed to a Hot Soup program for students and kids in and around Calgary.
$10,000 donated to the Calgary Mustard Seed - The Mustard Seed helps meet the basic needs of shelter, food, clothing and acceptance for men and women experiencing poverty, and works with them to find sustainable housing and employment.
$5,000 donated to ARBI (Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured) - This $5,000 will be directed to a technology that is assisting in the rehabilitation efforts at ARBI.
Through annual fundraising events such as the Flames poker and golf tournaments and the Flames 50-50 raffles we thank our supporters. Because of you, these are just some of the recent commitments the Flames Foundation for Life has made with your help.
Every season the Flames Foundation for Life support the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University and SAIT hockey programs and award Harley Hotchkiss scholarships. Make hockey more accessible with the Flames EvenStrength program through Hockey Calgary and support of Calgary’s AJHL teams and help provide the best skills and knowledge to medical practitioners through the Rebecca Hotchkiss International Scholarship Program. Along with over $70,000 in support of amateur and grassroots sports through the Flames 50-50 program.
Thank you to Flames Fans for the difference you help us make in our community.
