Calgary Inferno new look and name unveiled at Flames-Rangers game
CALGARY, AB -- The Canadian Women’s Hockey League and the Calgary Flames are proud to announce the new name for the CWHL team based in Calgary. Formerly called the Alberta Hockey Club, the team will be called the Calgary Inferno starting with the 2013-14 season.
In November 2012, the CWHL and the Calgary Flames announced a partnership introducing the Flames as a major supporter of the team based out of Calgary, one of five teams in the quickly growing women’s league.
The newly named Calgary Inferno will be branded with the Calgary Flames colours of red, yellow, black and white, with the same unique striping pattern worn by the NHL team. The word “Calgary” is scripted on the front of the new jerseys, with the new Inferno logo on the shoulders. Pants, socks, helmets and gloves will also be a direct match to the classic home and away uniforms of the Calgary Flames.
The new logo, along with the new Calgary name, were unveiled during tonight’s ceremonial puck drop at the Scotiabank Saddledome, with several star players from the local CWHL team in attendance for the pre-season game against the New York Rangers . The new name was chosen from the results of a CWHL-run fan contest.
The Calgary Inferno’s home opener is Friday, Nov. 29 at WinSport Canada Athletic & Ice Complex, the team’s home arena at Canada Olympic Park. Puck drop against the Toronto Furies is at 8 p.m. MT. For more information, please visit www.CWHL.ca.
