Game Blog: Flames vs. Islanders (Regina)

CALGARY FLAMES @ NEW YORK ISLANDERS - 7:00 PM - REGINA, SK

FINAL: 4-2 Flames

The Flames pick up a 4-2 victory over the Islanders in Regina, SK. Monahan (2), Stajan and Backlund scored for Calgary while Tavares and Moulson found the back of the net for New York. Karri Ramo made 21 saves.

3RD PERIOD: 4-2 Flames

Flames penalty with 18:41 remaining: Butler is called for cross-checking.

Islanders goal with 17:35 remaining: Moulson connects on the power play to make it 4-2 Flames. Tavares and Lubomir Visnovsky pick up the assists.

Flames penalty with 12:06 remaining: Josh Jooris is called for high-sticking.

Islanders penalty with 7:17 remaining: Tavares ties up David Jones and gets sent to the sin bin for interference.

2ND PERIOD: 4-1 Flames

Flames goal with 18:49 remaining: Sean Monahan makes it 1-0 for the Flames after sending a quick wrister past Nabokov. Corban Knight picks up the lone assist on Monahan's tally.

Flames penalty with 18:45 remaining: Monahan is called for hooking.

Islanders goal with 16:35 remaining: John Tavares is able to convert on the power play. Assists go to Matt Moulson and Colin McDonald.

Flames goal with 13:30 remaining: Matt Stajan wires a shot into the back of the net to give the Flames the lead again. Ben Hanowski and David Jones get the assists.

Flames penalty with 11:42 remaining: Tyler Wotherspoon will sit for 2:00 for interference.

Coincidental minors with 5:13 remaining: Shane O'Brien and Joe Finley are tabbed for roughing after a shoving match in front of the Islanders net.

Flames goal with 1:13 remaining: Mikael Backlund picks up his own rebound and tosses it past Nabokov to give the Flames a two-goal cushion. Emile Poirier and Knight get the helpers on the tally.

Flames goal with 49 seconds remaining: Monahan scores his second of the night and it's 4-1 Flames. Sven Baertschi assisted on the rookie's goal.

END OF PERIOD: The Flames have a 4-1 lead after 40:00 of play. Shots are 24-13 for Calgary. Ramo has been strong between the pipes for the Flames.

1ST PERIOD: 0-0

Fighting majors with 18:01 remaining: Brian McGrattan and Brett Gallant drop the gloves in their first shift of the game. Both throw some heavy rights in the tussle before they're pulled apart by the refs.

Islanders penalty with 10:07 remaining: Casey Cizikas is off for hooking.

Flames penalty with 10:04 remaining: Josh Jooris is called for interference off a draw in the Islanders zone.

Flames roster update: Patrick Sieloff, who was set to play alongside Ryan Culkin tonight, was a late scratch. He has a broken cheekbone and will be seen by doctors tomorrow in Calgary. Chris Butler is in the lineup, playing with Culkin on the blueline.

END OF PERIOD: It's 0-0 between the Flames and Islanders. Shots are 8-5 in Calgary's favour.

FLAMES MAKE MINOR LINEUP CHANGES

Ryan Culkin will play tonight while Chris Butler, who skated last night in Saskatoon, will sit. Culkin is paired up with his fellow 2012 NHL Draft pick Patrick Sieloff.

Karri Ramo gets the start in net at the Brandt Centre.

Otherwise, the Flames roster remains the same as the one they iced in Saskatoon last night - VIEW ROSTER.
