Gillies, Sieloff and USA White take down Finland at US WJC evaluation camp

CALGARY, AB -- Jon Gillies, Patrick Sieloff and USA White rebounded from Sunday's loss to Sweden with a 5-2 victory over Finland on Monday at the USA Hockey World Junior Championship evaluation camp.

The line of Taylor Cammarata (New York Islanders), Michael McCarron (Montreal Canadiens) and Tyler Motte (Chicago Blackhawks) led the Americans offensively, combining for two goals and four assists. Zach Stepan (Nashville Predators), Connor Clifton (Phoenix Coyotes) and Ian McCoshen (Florida Panthers) also scored for USA White.

Teuvo Teravainen (Chicago Blackhawks) and Aleksi Mustonen (undrafted) scored late in the third period for Finland.

Gillies, who started the game against Sweden, played the second half of the game against the Finns. He faced 15 shots, making 13 saves.

Sieloff took one minor penalty in the game, a high-sticking call in the second period. He was paired with Brett Pesce (Carolina Hurricanes) in the game.

The USA will trim its roster to 31 or 32 players on Tuesday. 44 players were invited to the camp but forward James Lodge (Winnipeg Jets) was injured in the first practice and was sent home this weekend.

Head coach Don Lucia will likely keep six lines of forwards and 10 defenceman. As for goalies, he is still debating whether to keep all four for the duration of camp.

"We have to decide if we're going to keep three or four," he told NHL.com. "We have three games to work with, and we have to make sure we give the guys enough work. If we keep four, I'm not saying all four guys would play. We want to get the guys that we want to get the best look at their ice time, over the next three games. I'll talk to (goalie coach) David Lessond and we'll have to make a decision on how we'll do it."

Gillies was John Gibson's back-up in 2013, capturing a gold medal, and many believe he will be the Americans first choice for the starting job in 2014.

"We have some frontrunners right now based on track record, based on play," Lucia said. "Gillies had a great year last year with Providence (College) and was the backup (at the 2013 World Junior Championship) to (John) Gibson, was able to sit back and learn from that. He's somebody we're going to look to lean on."
