Baertschi, Berra invited to Swiss national team photo and meeting

CALGARY, AB -- Calgary Flames forward Sven Baertschi and goaltender Reto Berra have been invited the Swiss national team photo and meeting on July 31 in Wetzikon, a small town in the Zurich Highlands area.

48 players (6 goaltenders, 17 defencemen and 25 forwards) have been invited to the meeting which will be run by head coach Sean Simpson. The assembled group will go over the 2013-14 season, the Sochi Olympics and the 2014 World Cup in Minsk.

The Swiss national team is coming off an exceptional showing at the 2013 World Championship. They claimed silver, capturing their first medal in the tournament since 1953. Berra, who was not in net in the gold medal game against Sweden, posted a shutout in the semi-final match-up against the USA.

"I have no words for that," Berra told the assembled media, sharing his thoughts on the 3-0 win over the Americans. "I think it's the biggest win since a long, long time for Switzerland and also I think for a lot of players it was the most important game in their life."

Baertschi was invited to represent his country at the World Championships but was unable to participate due to a groin injury.
