Gillies invited to National Junior Evaluation Camp

CALGARY, AB -- Calgary Flames goaltending prospect Jon Gillies of Providence College has been invited to attend USA Hockey's National Junior Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y. from August 3-10.

Gillies, Calgary's third pick, 75th overall in the 2012 NHL Draft, served as backup to John Gibson at the 2013 World Junior Championship. He stopped all seven shots faced in 20 minutes of relief action against Germany in an 8-0 victory. He also attended last year's National Junior Evaluation Camp.

In 35 games with the Friars this season, Gillies had a 17-12-6 record with a 2.08 goals against average and .931 save percentage.

The 19-year-old received the Hockey Commissioners' Association (HCA) National Division I Rookie of the Year award and was named to the American Hockey Coaches Association All-America East second-team.

The 6-foot-5 goaltender was also the Hockey East Rookie of the Year, a First-Team Hockey East All-Star and a part of the Hockey East All-Rookie Team, the College Hockey News Rookie of the Year, part of the All-College Hockey News Second Team and the College Hockey News All-Rookie Team, the New England Hockey Writers Association George C. Carens Award winner, a New England Hockey Writers Association Div. I All-Star, a Walter Brown Award Semifinalist, the Hockey East Rookie of the Month twice, the HCA Rookie of the Month on two occasions and nabbed 17 Hockey East weekly awards.
