CALGARY, AB -- It's been a long shortened season for the Colorado Avalanche.

Despite boasting a plethora of young talent up front, the Avalanche have scored a league-low 89 goals this season.

That lack of production has Colorado on one of the league's more miserable runs. The Avalanche are just 2-11-1 in their last 14 games and have a league-worst 29 points, ensuring that Colorado will miss the playoffs for a third consecutive season.

SEASON SERIES

Flames Season Series Record: 1-2-0

Monday's game marks the fourth and final contest between the Avalanche and Calgary Flames.

The Avalanche took the first two divisional match-ups over the Flames, winning 6-3 at Scotiabank Saddledome on January 31st before rallying from 3-0 to take a dramatic, come-from-behind 5-4 victory over Calgary on February 28th.

Calgary rebounded by eking out a 4-3 decision on March 27th, the night Jarome Iginla was dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

WHO'S HOT

Matt Duchene
Center - COL
GOALS: 15 | ASST: 21 | PTS: 36
SOG: 96 | +/-: -10
MATT DUCHENE

With points in three straight before being shut out by Mike Smith and the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday, Duchene has continued his rebounding season. With just 14 goals and 28 points in 58 games a year ago, Duchene has already eclipsed that goal mark with 15 and has flirted with a point-per-game average over the course of this season.

WHO'S NOT

Ryan O'Reilly
Center - COL
GOALS: 4 | ASST: 9 | PTS: 13
SOG: 50 | +/-: -5
RYAN O'REILLY

Getting a late start on his season due to a contract dispute, O'Reilly wasted no time making an impact in the Avalanche lineup. The 22-year-old center had four goals and 13 points in his first 13 games of the season. Unfortunately since then, the six-foot, 200-pound pivot has been blanked. O'Reilly has failed to record a point in six straight outings and is minus-4 during that span.

THREE PLAYERS TO WATCH

PA PARENTEAU

Sharing the team lead in goals at 15 with Matt Duchene, Parenteau has done everything that could've been asked of him after he inked a four-year, $16 million contract last summer. The 30-year-old right winger also leads the team in points, holding a one point edge over Duchene with 37.

JOHN MITCHELL

Third on the Avalanche in goals with nine and tops with a plus-8 rating, Mitchell has been everything Colorado's needed out of him at both ends of the ice. Though he'll need a run to break his career-high of 12 goals, the Avalanche have to be thrilled with the production they've received out of the 28-year-old, who is signed through next season at a bargain.

PATRICK BORDELEAU

Though he's got just two points - both assists - this season, Bordeleau can make an impact every time gets the tap to jump over the boards. The six-foot-six, 225-pound pugilist has some of the heaviest mitts in the league as Brian McGrattan can attest to. The pair performed in one of the most spirited bouts in recent Flames memory the last time these two teams squared off.
