Flames trade Jay Bouwmeester to St. Louis

CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames announced today that they have acquired St. Louis’ 2013 first round pick, defenceman Mark Cundari and goaltender Reto Berra in exchange for Jay Bouwmeester. In the event St. Louis does not qualify for the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Flames will receive St. Louis’ 4th round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and the first round pick will be deferred to the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

MARK CUNDARI – DEFENCE

BORN: Woodbridge, ON DATE: April 23, 1990

HEIGHT: 5’10’’ WEIGHT: 200 lbs.

HOW ACQUIRED: Trade with St. Louis along with Reto Berra and St. Louis’s first round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft in exchange for Jay Bouwmeester on April 1, 2013.

Cundari, a native of Woodbridge, ON, is currently in his third professional season with Peoria of the AHL. In 56 games this season he has scored 7 goals and added 18 assists for 25 points while accumulating 80 penalty minutes. The 5’10”, 200 lb rearguard played four seasons with the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL capturing back-to-back Memorial Cup championships in 2008-09 and 2009-10. The 22 year old was signed as free agent by St. Louis in 2010.

RETO BERRA – GOALTENDER

BORN: Bulach, Swiss DATE: January 3, 1987

HEIGHT: 6’4’’ WEIGHT: 200 lbs.

HOW ACQUIRED: Trade with St. Louis along with Mark Cundari and St. Louis’s first round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft in exchange for Jay Bouwmeester on April 1, 2013.

Berra, a native of Bulach, Switzerland was St. Louis’ 4th round pick (106th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He is currently playing for Biel in the Swiss A League where he has appeared in 49 games posting a 3.01 GAA and a .906 save percentage. The 6’4” 200 lb netminder has also played with HC Davos. Berra, 26 years old, represented Switzerland several times at the World Championships and with the junior national team in international competition.
