GAME STORY

FLAMES BURN STARS 4-3

CALGARY, AB – Three Calgary Flames forwards couldn’t pick a better time to put themselves in the goal column.

And because they did, it put the Flames in the win column.

Roman Horak, Matt Stajan and Steve Begin all scored their first goal of the season in the third period as the Flames erased a two-goal deficit to beat the Dallas Stars 4-3 at American Airlines Center on Sunday night.

Trailing 3-1 heading into the final 20 minutes, Horak dropped to a knee to bury Jay Bouwmeester’s rebound to cut the lead to one just 1:39 into the period. Just 45 seconds later, Stajan batted a centering feed from Lee Stempniak over Stars starter Richard Bachman to tie the game.

Begin buried a rebound off the pad of Bachman midway through the third period that help up as the game-winner, his first NHL goal since April 10th, 2010.

The victory comes five days after torching Bachman for six goals as part of a 7-4 win over the Stars on Wednesday and serves as the first for Joey MacDonald as a member of the Flames.

GOAL OF THE GAME

Dropping to one knee to put a Jay Bouwmeester rebound past Bachman, Horak scored his first goal of the season in his second game since being recalled from the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League earlier in the week. The goal jumpstarted Calgary's comeback.

SAVE OF THE GAME

On the power play midway through the second period, a streaking Jaromir Jagr cut through the slot and rang the puck off the mask of goaltender Joey MacDonald.

TURNING POINT

The Flames were able to make Begin’s goal midway through the third period stick as the game winner to give Calgary two points in their first of two games away from Scotiabank Saddledome.

STAT OF THE NIGHT

In his first start as a member of the Flames, Joey MacDonald recorded his first win since March 9th.

LINEUP NOTES

Blair Jones, Cory Sarich and Derek Smith were healthy scratches for the Flames while Steve Begin played in hi first game since February 11th against the Minnesota Wild.

Miikka Kiprusoff, Mikael Backlund, Sven Baertschi and Paul Byron all remain absent from the lineup due to injury.

The Flames waste little time getting right back to action Monday night against the Phoenix Coyotes (7 p.m. MT, SNET-W).
