Brust leads Heat to 2-0 win over Admirals
ABBOTSFORD, BC -- The Abbotsford Heat shutout the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators) 2-0 to win their fourth straight game at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (AESC). The win ends the club’s eight game home stand with a record of five wins and three losses.
Barry Brust made his first start since January 4th, stopping 30 shots to earn his fourth shutout of the season. Krys Kolanos and Brett Carson both scored for the second straight game to lead the Heat to their 15th win in 24 home games. The win moved the Heat into a tie with the North Division leading Toronto Marlies with 49 points.
Kolanos put the Heat up 1-0 for the second straight night with his eleventh goal of the season. The goal was assisted by Joe Piskula and rookie Max Reinhart. Kolanos has now scored the opening goal five times this season to lead the AHL and has recorded a point in each of his last ten games played against the Milwaukee Admirals.
Carson extended the Heat lead to 2-0 on the power play in the second period. Carson’s second goal in his second game of the season was assisted by Mike Matzcak and Quintin Laing.
Brust’s 30-save shutout lowered his goals against average to 1.44 and raised his save percentage to .948 – he leads the AHL in both categories. Brust was recently selected to the 2013 All-Star Classic hosted by the Providence Bruins next weekend.
The Heat power play scored for the fourth straight game, finishing the night one for two on the man-advantage. The Heat penalty kill negated all four Milwaukee opportunities.
The Heat will head out on the road for their next five games. They play Friday and Saturday night against the Charlotte Checkers prior to the AHL All-Star break. The Heat will return to action after the break on Thursday, January 31st, facing the Lake Erie Monsters twice in Cleveland before playing the Grand Rapids Griffins to close the road trip.
