2013 WJC Blog: Finland vs. Sweden - 31.12.12

Finland fell 7-4 to Sweden in their last preliminary round game at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship and now find themselves in the relegation round.

Calgary Flames 2011 second round draft pick Markus Granlund picked up one assist in the loss, bringing his tournament total to five points through four games. He also won 17 of his draws in the game, leading all players in faceoff wins.

Finland fell into a three-goal hole in the first period when Alexander Wennberg, Robert Hagg and Calgary Hitmen forward Victor Rask all beat Joonas Korpisalo but they managed to get themselves on board later on in the frame. Joel Armia scored a power play goal at 16:17 to cut Sweden's lead to 3-1 after 20:00 of play.

The Finns closed the gap in the second period with goals from Rasmus Ristolainen and Armia, both coming on the power play, and the Swedes opted to put Niklas Lundstrom in net after the tying goal in hopes of getting the momentum back in their favour.

The move seemed to work as they scored two goals, courtesy of Viktor Arvidsson and Swedish captain Filip Forsberg respectively, to regain the lead.

In the third period, Ville Järveläinen scored for Finland but the Swedes held them at bay and skated away with a 7-4 win. Emil Molin and Arvidsson scored Sweden's sixth and seventh goals of the night.
