Calgary Flames prospect Markus Granlund played the hero for Finland in their 5-4 shootout victory over Switzerland on Sunday, scoring twice in regulation and netting the shootout winner for his country.
Granlund is Finland's scoring leader with four goals in three games.
Finland plays their final preliminary round game on Dec. 31, squaring off against Sweden. With their win on Sunday, Finland sits second in Group A with five points. Sweden leads the group with eight points and a 2-1-0 record.
Lino Martschini gave the Swiss a 1-0 lead when he was able to bang a loose puck past Joonas Korpisalo. Sven Andrighetto made it 2-0 just over a minute later when he redirected a Tanner Richard shot.
Granlund potted the first Finnish goal at 5:21 of the second period, deflecting Juuso Vainio's shot on the power play. Teuvo Teräväinen went on to tie the game up at the midway mark of the frame when his wrister went over Swiss goaltender Melvin Nyffeler's shoulder.
Switzerland kept pushing in the third period, managing to push the score to 4-2 at one point thanks to Alessio Bertaggia and Christoph Bertschy's tallies.
Teräväinen pulled the Finns within a single goal at 13:06 while Granlund scored the equalizer off a faceoff at 18:20.
