ABBOTSFORD, BC -- The Abbotsford Heat were defeated 4-0 by the San Antonio Rampage at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (AESC) on Wednesday night.

The Heat were shut out despite outshooting the Rampage 36-14. Abbotsford remains at the top of the AHL standings with 31 points. Jacob Markstrom earned his first shutout of the season and has now won four straight games.

The Rampage opened the scoring at 4:29 of the first period with Scott Timmins’ unassisted goal on the Rampage’s second shot.

The visitors went ahead by two with Justin Vaive’s first of the season at 7:06, leaving the Heat down by two after 20 minutes of play.

Quinton Howden extended the Rampage lead to 3-0 at 5:30 of the second period. Timmins recorded his second point of the night on the play, assisting on the Rampage goal that ended Leland Irving’s night.

Howden added an empty net goal, his second of the night, at 18:11 of the third period to close out the scoring.

Leland Irving made his fifth start of the season, but was replaced by Danny Taylor after allowing three goals on eight shots. The Heat outshot the Rampage 36-14, with Rampage netminder Jacob Markstrom earning the shutout and first star honours. Taylor stopped all six shots he faced during 34:30 of play.

The Heat were 0-for-3 on the power play, and killed off both Rampage man-advantages.

The Heat now head out on a two-game road trip, playing the Toronto Marlies on Sunday, December 9, and the Rochester Americans on Tuesday, December 11.

December 14 and 15 will feature a 2-for-1 ticket deal for fans as the Heat host the Texas Stars at the AESC.
