Wotherspoon honoured to play for Team WHL in Subway Super Series
CALGARY, AB -- On Nov. 15 in Victoria, BC, Calgary Flames prospect Tyler Wotherspoon will suit up for Team WHL in the 2012 Subway Super Series and the blueliner is thrilled to be a part of the tournament.
"It's an honour," he told CalgaryFlames.com. "To represent Canada in that situation, it's amazing. Being recognized like that, it's a great feeling."
The Surrey, BC product has put forth a strong showing in the first couple of months of the 2012-13 season with the Portland Winterhawks. Through 18 games this year, Wotherspoon has 16 points (2 goals, 14 assists) and is a plus-23.
Wotherspoon's good friend and fellow Flames prospect Laurent Brossoit was also named to Team WHL's roster. The pair were drafted by the Flames in the 2011 NHL Draft with Wotherspoon being selected in the second round (57th overall) and Brossoit going in the sixth round (164th overall).
"It's been a long ride with us," Wotherspoon said. "He's been there every step of the way throughout my career so to both be named to this team, it's pretty amazing."
The tournament, which sees regional CHL All-Stars competing against the Russian National Junior Team, is a key part of the selection process for the Canadian National Junior Team for the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.
The six-game series is now tied at 2-2 with Team OHL picking up a 2-1 victory over the Russians on Monday night.
The final two games of the Subway Super Series can be viewed on Sportsnet at 8:00 PM MST on Nov. 14 and 15.
