Flames sign Lee Stempniak
CALGARY, AB – The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed forward Lee Stempniak
“We like what Lee Stempniak brings to our line-up, and our team missed him a lot with an injury last year,” said Flames General Manager Jay Feaster. “We believe Lee continues to have strong upside offensively, and he has demonstrated that he can be responsible at both ends of the ice. His skating style and willingness to get in on the forecheck will fit-in nicely with Bob Hartley’s up-tempo style, and he provides the coaching staff with more options on the power play.”
Stempniak, a native of West Seneca, New York, played last season with the Flames accumulating 14 goals and 14 assists for 28 points in 61 games. In 517 career games, Stempniak has recorded 129 goals and 275 points. Originally drafted by St. Louis in the 5th round (148th overall) in the 2003 NHL Draft, he has also played for Toronto and Phoenix. He was acquired by Calgary in exchange for Daymond Langkow on August 29, 2011.
Contract Terms: Two year contract with an AAV of $2,500,000.
