CALGARY, AB – The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed center Blair Jones.
“Blair Jones is the type of ‘hard to play against’ player we want in our line-up,” said Flames General Manager Jay Feaster. “He is a big body, he is fearless, he drives hard to the net and takes defenders with him, he uses his body effectively in both zones and he is versatile in that he can play on the 3rd or 4th line, kills penalties, blocks shots and can be spotted occasionally on the power play for net-front presence. In addition, we believe he is only going to continue to get better as he works on other aspects of his game such as face-offs and being an irritant to play against. We are pleased to have him signed.”
Jones, a native of Central Butte, Saskatchewan, played 21 games for the Flames last season scoring one goal and added three assists for four points and eight penalty minutes after coming over from Tampa Bay on January 6 in exchange for Brendan Mikkelson. He had a pair of goals and a pair of assists with the Lightning in 22 games prior to joining the Flames last season.
Contract terms: Two year contract with an Average Annual Value of $650,000.
