World\'s Longest Hockey Game close to hitting $1.5 million goal

CHESTERMERE, AB -- The World's Longest Hockey Game, which benefits the Pediatric Cancer Patients Ward of the Alberta Children's Hospital, has surpassed the $1 million mark after over 230 straight hours of hockey being played.

The aim of the event is to raise $1.5 million for the Pediatric Cancer Patients Ward whilst setting a new Guiness World Record for the longest hockey game ever played. Beginning on May 6th, players set out to play hockey for 10 straight days. They will need to play until 4:00 PM on Wednesday, May 16th in order to set the record but will continue playing until 6:00 PM to make sure the record really sticks.

There are only 40 players participating in the event so sleep and rest are hard to come by but according to operations manager Dan Pilling, they had no problem rounding up players.

"It was pretty easy," he said. "A lot of guys liked the idea. It's for a great cause so that was pretty easy.

"We had volunteers waiting in line to be one of the players."
