Morning Skate Report: Flames vs. Avs
As the team goes into their game tonight against the Colorado Avalanche it will be the mental aspect of the game that the Flames are concentrating on.
“You gotta make sure that mentally you’re in the right place,” said head coach Brent Sutter.
“We talked about yesterday as a group that we wanted to move on past our last game and get focused on our next opponent, you got to be mentally strong enough to do that.”
For both teams this is one of the most important games of their season and for this reason emotions will be high. It will be using these emotions that will be one of the keys in tonight’s game.
“I think you’re going to see two desperate teams but I think for us we just have to get out there and play, leave it all out there,” said defenceman Mark Giordano.
“It’s just tonight and we’ve gotta get the two points. Tonight we’ve gotta find a way to get that momentum.”
The sense of urgency will definitely be on the minds of the players as they go into tonight but the players are planning to use this to their advantage to gain control over the game. Avoiding predictions the team isn’t guessing what the score will be, they are simply working towards the best game possible.
“We’ll find out at 9:30 and try to make sure the outcome is determined by the way we’re playing,” said forward Mike Cammalleri.
Cory Sarich will be back in the lineup tonight after missing four games due to an upper body injury.
“Cory will play tonight, he’s good to go” said head coach Brent Sutter.
“It’s huge, the way Cory had been playing and taking a presence like that out of your back end has definitely affected us in certain areas.”
The return of Sarich will help the team in a time when they need all the help they can get. Sarich will likely be on the line with Anton Babchuk who is having one of his strongest runs of the season. This will be pivotal for the Flames and their fight to remain in the playoff race.
“It’s been such a grind lately and then when you’re all the sudden taken out of it because of an injury, you have to sit there, have to watch and you don’t feel like you can contribute,” said Sarich.
“I’m really excited to get back in and help the team.”
