Eddy excited to join the Flames organization

CALGARY, AB -- When forward David Eddy decided to forego his senior season at St. Cloud University, he had several options available to him in terms of where he could sign but in the end, he felt Calgary was the best fit.

"I know some of the coaches up there and how they stand, how they coach the game and I really like that," he told CalgaryFlames.com. "I think just everything fell into place and everything has worked out perfectly."

Even though he knew he would likely be signing a deal with an NHL club, he still found it hard to describe the elation he felt over signing his first professional contract.

"It's pretty unreal," Eddy said. "This is what you dream of, since you were a little kid and when you start playing the sport.

"When it actually happens, you look back at all the memories and all the things that have brought you there - you sit back and smile. It's one of the greatest feelings you can ever have."

Flames general manager Jay Feaster and his scouting team like the fact Eddy plays a highly physical game and isn't afraid to play in tough areas.

"David is a hard worker who goes to the high traffic areas on the ice and plays the game with grit and passion," Feaster said after the signing was announced. "He is the type of player who agitates opponents by the way he battles and competes. He is very strong on his skates and tough to move from in front of the net."

Eddy himself concurs with that assessment, adding he will play whatever role coaches ask him to in order to help his club win.

"I like to play hard-nosed, grindy, gritty, sandpaper-type hockey," he said. "Try to throw a little bit of skill in there and get some goals.

"I'll do whatever I can to help the team win. Whether that be blocking shots and hitting guys or scoring goals and passing the puck to guys who can score some goals. I just try to anything I can to help my team."

In 39 games with St. Cloud this season, Eddy has recorded nine goals and 25 points.
