As It Happens: 2012 Trade Deadline

2:30 PM: Flames general manager Jay Feaster stated that while the team was involved in several conversations, the prices being asked were far too steep and he wasn't going to mortgage the future. He did re-sign Tim Jackman to a two-year extension.

1:00 PM: No moves for the Flames at the deadline.

12:00 PM: The only trades even remotely related to the Flames thus far this morning is former Flames heading to Tampa Bay. Mike Commodore and Keith Aulie were dealt the Lightning earlier today.

10:40 AM: All players accounted for at the morning skate. David Moss is participating in practice - he's hoping to return to action in the near future.

9:30 AM: All quiet on the Flames front. TSN TradeCentre highlights Calgary in a segment, noting the only two prospects worth talking about are Sven Baertschi and Max Reinhart. We disagree and point to players like Michael Ferland, John Gaudreau, John Ramage, Bill Arnold, Markus Granlund, Joey Leach ... just to name a few.

FEB. 26TH, 2012: Tom Kostopoulos, Cory Sarich, Olli Jokinen, Mark Giordano and head coach Brent Sutter fielded questions about the impending trade deadline and all of them echoed the same sentiment: the magnitude of the day has become overblown.

"Now it’s become more of a media thing,” said Giordano. "As players, what can we do now? We don’t play between now and the deadline. I don’t think too many guys are too worried about it."

Sutter added that his troops should not be concerned about the trade deadline as their mind should be on the task at hand - playing the St. Louis Blues.

"I don't want one player inside that dressing room thinking otherwise."

Jokinen, who is set to become a UFA this summer, also talked about a possible contract extension with the Flames. Many have questioned if the organization would ask the pivot to waive his no-movement clause before the trade deadline but that is a notion Jokinen brushed aside.

"He (Jay Feaster) told me that he wants to sign me," the 33 year-old said. "There’s always a place to talk about that stuff, and I never want to use media. There’s a lot of guys in that situation. That shouldn’t even be a topic right now. We’re right in the middle of a playoff hunt. It hasn’t even crossed my mind that they would come and ask.

"The focus is here, the focus is to help this team get into the post-season."
