Annual poker tournament raises $550,000 for Flames Foundation
CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames Ambassadors’ and Calgary Flames Hockey Club are happy to announce the 7th Annual Texas Hold’Em Poker Tournament held on Wednesday, February 1st raised more than $550,000 for the Flames Foundation for Life; bringing the total raised through the poker event to over $2.5 million over seven years.
Calgary Flames players, coaches, alumni and local celebrities including Roughnecks and Stampeders players competed against 350 other poker players who bought-in to play against their hockey heroes.
The overall winner of the tournament was Jon Molvneaux who won a $10,000 Poker Championship ring from Jewels by Maxime’s, two tickets anywhere WestJet flies, two 2011-2012 Top Shelf Flames tickets and $5,000 cash. Second place went to Danen Bellefleur and the third spot ranking was claimed by Brian Mennis. Last Flames player standing and fourth place went to Alex Tanguay who donated his winnings back to charity.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Flames Foundation for Life. The Flames Foundation for Life is the charitable arm of the Calgary Flames through which millions of dollars in funding has already been directed to education, medical research, amateur sport and recreation.
